Teaching

"Each semester, I am an instructor for the Capstone Course for Seniors in Columbia's Sustainable Development Major. The students advise a client about an issue related to some aspect of sustainability. Prior topics have included: 1) assessment of tropical cyclone impacts on Orange County New York, 2) working with the West Point Military Academy on water and food security issues in the Nile River Basin, and 3) collaborating with Columbia's Sabin Center on legal aspects of climate adaptation in the context of energy utilities and Environmental Impact Statements. I invariably learn a great deal from the students, and am left more optimistic about the future. Their solution-oriented results provide a welcome counterpoint to the often depressing breaking news in climate science."
